TRIO Story #1
By: Parent of an 18 year old with a TRIO genetic change
What is your family like?
We are a family of 4. Mom, dad, young adult son and a teenage daughter with the TRIO gene mutation.
What do you do for fun?
We like to spend time boating, walking our dog and playing games together.
Tell us about the biggest hardship you face.
Our biggest hardship has been providing and getting supports for our daughter.
What is one question you wish researchers could answer about this genetic change?
Are there foods, mediations, etc. that are better suited to children with the TRIO gene mutation? Are certain foods not absorbed as well as others. (E.g., ADHD is often associated with TRIO, what ADHD medication is best suited for children with TRIO related gene disorders?)
What have you learned about your or your child’s genetic condition from other families?
Other children have had many of the same experiences our daughter has had, in terms of development and progress.
